What is PRP?

Our blood is made up of two components – Red cells and plasma.

The plasma portion or the yellow portion of the blood has white cells, platelets and serum. These platelets in plasma are responsible for stopping the bleeding in body at different places. But these platelets also have growth factors. Whenever activated, they start releasing these chemicals in the surrounding area which in turn stimulate growth of tissue and cells in the vicinity. When injected in scalp, it helps to stimulate the existing alive hair root cells to grow hair and helps with health of hair roots. It is one of the innovative mode to stimulate hair growth.

What result one can expect after PRP injections?

The role of PRP to hair is like role of fertilizer to plants. It can not create new roots or hair seeds but it definitely helps the existing roots to grow better and thicker and can stimulate a weak root to start growing a new plant! One may notice improved hair growth due to all thin and short hair growing in length and thickness, Quality of hair may improve. It helps to improve hair fall in many instances.

Pre procedure instructions:

Nothing specific.

Don’t come for the procedure empty stomach. Eat something and come.

Try not to be stressed out before the procedure. Your blood reflects all your stress and stress hormones!!

How is PRP performed?

It takes total 30-45 minutes for the procedure. Its a three step process

Step 1 – Your blood is withdrawn from your arm in two sterile vacutainers. Usually we take 10 to 20 ml of blood.

Step – 2 – The vacutainers with blood are placed in a specialised centrifuge machine. In the machine, the blood separates in to red part and white part. Under controlled environment and specified speeds and chemical solutions, this white part is further separated in to serum and platelet plug. And with utmost gentle care, this platelet plug is taken out in another container. With the help of some chemicals, these platelets are activated and they are now ready to be injected.

Step – 3 – The scalp skin is prepared for injection. For that, the skin is first anesthetized with local anesthetic solution injection in scalp along the hair line. Anesthesia works instantly in 1-2 minutes and makes the process painless thereafter. After that, PRP solution is injected with multiple tiny pricks throughout the scalp skin so as to cover the entire area of scalp skin with hair roots inside.

After care:

There is no after care. You can go back to work immediately after the procedure. You may notice some pain in skin or discomfort after the procedure. It usually subsides in sometime.
